Trees For Schools: Carver High School

On Thursday, March 18, 2015, Montgomery Trees’ Trees for Schools program completed phase 2 of the Carver High School tree plantings.

Montgomery Trees board member, Karen Benton, coordinated the project, while Alabama Power so graciously purchased the ten beautiful, 4″ in diameter Shumard oak trees.

March2015-CHS1The next day, volunteers from Alabama Power’s service organization, APSO (Alabama Power Service Organization), planted the trees after the City of Montgomery’s urban forester, Russell Stringer, demonstrated proper planting techniques.

Over the past three years, Alabama Power has partnered with Montgomery Trees to plant trees at Carver High School for. Twenty trees have been planted during the 2014-2015 school year, already!

Watering bags have been placed on the trees and Carver students will water them weekly for the next year as part of their contribution to this project, thus ensuring the trees get off to a good start!
